Appointed by the Governor with Senate advice and consent, the Secretary of Information Technology supervises the Department and is the Governor's principal adviser in information technology matters.

The Secretary of Information Technology will serve as the top IT manager of the State as well as the Governor’s advisor on the utilization of technology to achieve the strategic goals of the Administration. The Secretary will be aligned with the Governor’s vision and plans. The Secretary will also be directly accountable to the Governor for maintaining IT policy and strategic direction consistent with the Administration’s objectives, reducing IT costs through consolidation and centralization, improving service delivery by streamlining redundant systems, providing and enforcing consistent policy and standards statewide, coordinating best practices across agency boundaries, and otherwise ensuring an appropriate investment in technology.
