DNS

The DNS Service provides Domain Name System (DNS) resolution to internal and external users, enabling resolution of server and service addresses on the Internet and the Statewide Government Intranet (SwGI). For customers hosting servers accessible to the Internet or SwGI, the service provides DNS servers that enable name-to-IP address resolution to occur. The DNS service also provides users of the networkMaryland™ Internet Service name-to-IP address resolution to reach hosts on the Internet.

Service Level Objective (SLO):

The DNS Service has a 99.99% uptime service level objective; excluding planned outages, maintenance windows and unavoidable events.

Features and Benefits:

  • Provide State entities a DNS services for domains they own or manage, including administrative support for DNS record additions, modifications, and deletions
  • DNS service features:
    • DNS Hosting services (Start of Authority [SOA]) for domains
    • Forward look up services
    • Recursive query services

     

    Eligible: All SwGI and Internet users for the purpose of name resolution of state servers and services are eligible

    Availability (Uptime): 24 hours / 365 days

    Standard Support Hours: 7am – 9pm Monday- Friday

    Exceptions: The Service Desk is not available during State Holidays or Service Reduction Days

    Response (to incident) Time: Based on priority, see SLA Document

    Resolution (of incident) Time: Based on priority, see SLA Document

    Maintenance Windows: Sat/Sun 12:00am – 6:00am (excluding holidays)

    Security: Authentication through Active Directory

    Business Critical Service: Yes; Recovery Time – 4 hours
