Maryland Data Literacy Program

The Maryland Data Literacy Program empowers state employees to make data-informed decisions that support Governor Moore’s vision for a safer, more affordable, and more competitive Maryland. The program focuses on three pillars: Education, Engagement, and Enablement—all designed to strengthen data skills and foster a culture of evidence-based decision-making across state government.

We provide training and resources to help employees build core skills in data analysis, visualization, and emerging technologies like AI. By improving data fluency, we support better decision-making, career growth, and improved outcomes for Marylanders. This program equips state employees to lead with data—driving innovation, delivering better services, and making a measurable impact for Maryland.

The Maryland Data Academy is designed to transform Maryland's state government into a data-driven organization. Aligned with Governor Moore's mandate to create a safer, more affordable, and competitive state, the academy provides comprehensive training and development to empower state employees with essential data literacy skills. It focuses on Education through curated courses and certifications, Engagement through community initiatives and collaborative events, and Enablement through the Data Academy site and a central resource hub for data assets. The academy aims to cultivate a culture of analytical thinking and evidence-based decision-making, ensuring employees can effectively locate, access, and utilize data to drive transformative improvements across agencies.
