Project Progress by Phase

  • Phase 1 - Region 1A (Complete)

    Phase 1 was completed in December 2012; about 4,000 mobile and portable radio units were on the system supporting 50% of Maryland's population.
  • Phase 2 - Eastern Shore (Complete)

    Phase 2 was operational in February 2014; 30% of the state geography was covered. This phase added 3,500 portable and mobile radio units and provides support for 56% of the State's population as well as very popular tourist destinations.
  • Phase 3 - Central Maryland (In Progress)

    By end of phase 3, approx. 50% of the state geography will be covered. This phase will add close to 3,000 portable and mobile radios onto the system and will provide radio coverage for approximately 84% of Maryland's population.
  • Phase 4 - Western Maryland (PDR in Progress)

    By end of phase 4, approx. 76% of the state geography will be covered. Another 3,000 radios will be added to the system in this phase. When Phase 4 is completed, 90% of the State's population will be covered by the State's Public Safety Radio System.
  • Phase 5 - NCR and Southern Maryland (Planned)

    By end of phase 5, the state will have full coverage. The total number of radios will be approximately 15,000 Portable and 10,000 Mobile units.
