Cybersecurity Education-EARN Maryland

Cybersecurity Training and Certification Opportunity

The Maryland Department of Labor, in partnership with the Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT) and the Employment Advancement Right Now (EARN) Maryland program grantee BCR Cyber will provide cybersecurity training to Maryland state and local government employees. This Statewide training will include BCR Cyber’s Cybersecurity Operational Methods Education Training (“COMET”) which consists of both Incumbent and Advanced Incumbent Training.

The Incumbent Training course provides an introduction / review of IT and cybersecurity concepts, tools, threats, and vulnerabilities. The course is broken down into the following three parts: Part 1: Command Line & Linux, Part 2: Introduction to the SIEM, and Part 3: Cyber Range Simulation.

Note: For Part 3, each session consists of two live 4-hour sessions, conducted from 9:00am to 1:00pm and 1:00pm to 5:00pm (only one four-hour session per day per group).

The Advanced Incumbent Training course includes cybersecurity training and preparation for CompTIA Security+ certification. Security+ certification is an industry standard that demonstrates the practitioner has the knowledge and skills required to securely administer and manage IT / cyber systems. Practitioners receive training in installation, configuration, and system management. Training topics include network devices, security appliances, threat basics, applications, and networks. The training material prepares students for threat analysis activities and outlines many risk mitigation techniques. The course includes a review of many cyber-attacks, including a general description of the attack, implementations, detection techniques and attack mitigation.

Please review the requirements and timeline for the training and, if meeting the requirements for the training and are interested, complete the State Cybersecurity Training Request Form. If chosen, you will receive additional application materials to complete.

Training spots are limited.
