networkMaryland™​ is the State’s private high-speed network that supports public sector data transport and common service delivery. Built using a combination of existing fiber optic cable assets and the installation of additional fiber and wireless infrastructure, networkMaryland™ provides a cost effective solution for wide area and Internet connectivity as well as perimeter security defenses to protect networks for intrusions. Additionally, networkMaryland™ provides the statewide government Intranet which allows agencies to host and share common applications.​

Description:

networkMaryland™​ is the State’s private high-speed network that supports public sector data transport and common service delivery. Built using a combination of State owned fiber optic cable assets and leased assets provided by commercial service providers, networkMaryland™ provides a cost effective solution for wide area and Internet connectivity. Additionally, networkMaryland™ provides the Statewide Government Intranet (SwGI)  allowing agencies to host and share common applications across a trusted network.

  • Capable of providing services up to 1 Gbps using standard provisioning
  • Capable of engineering and delivering services up to 10 Gbps
  • Over 1,000 locations currently connected to the network

  • Internet service provider (ISP) connectivity provided at multiple locations
  • Direct network peering with major internet content services providers
  • SwGI service allows subscribers to both publish and access Intra-agency services e.g. FMIS, MView, MVA
  • Provide connectivity to any location within the state without traversing the ‘public internet’
  • All equipment required to interface service with customer LAN is provided
  • Domain Name Service included in service
  • Consultation regarding service options and network configurations
  • 24 x 7 x 365 monitoring and management via networkMaryland™​ Network Operations Center (NOC)

Service Prerequisites

 

Before service can be provisioned the client must meet the following requirements:

DoIT Provided Services:
  • Customer to provide the appropriate connectivity from the customer LAN to the WAN service components
Technical:
  • Documentation and network diagram of IT infrastructure provided to DoIT
  • Coordinate access for service installation for service provider(s)
  • Provide 24 x 7 x 365 points of contact (3) and access for coordinating outages, emergency maintenance/restoration and change management
Non-Technical:
  • Provide 24 x 7 x 365 points of contact (3) for coordinating outages, emergency maintenance/restoration and change management
  • Establish physical access to agency sites

Scope of Service

 

This section outlines the area of responsibility between the provider (DoIT) and the customer.

In scope:
  • ​Internet ​ networkMaryland™ provides broadband connections to the Internet. networkMaryland™ also provides Domain Name System (DNS) resolution to internal and external users, enabling resolution of server and service addresses on the Internet
  • SwGI networkMaryland™ provides private network connectivity among Government entities and partners using the Statewide Government Intranet (SwGI). SwGI is a private, trusted network that provides a centralized resource for State entities to create and share resources like FMIS, WebFleet Master, DNS, MVA applications and Criminal Justice Information Systems to other governmental partners. networkMaryland™ also provides Domain Name System (DNS) resolution to internal and external users, enabling resolution of server and service addresses on the Statewide Government Intranet (SwGI).
  • VPRN networkMaryland™ Virtual Private Routed Network (VPRN) services provides a private routed network allowing subscribers to provide services to multiple offices from a primary data center or multiple data center locations. The VPRN deconstructs the traditional hub and spoke architecture (where primary locations became the hub for all services) and provides a flat network between all locations - providing better use of bandwidth resources and greater resiliency in the event of the loss of traditional location.
  • Private Line services are dedicated connections across the network backbone for customers that desire dedicated bandwidth with location to location connectivity.

Customer Responsibilities:
  • Designate a 24 x 7 x 365 point of contact for coordinating planned or emergency maintenance
  • Provide 24 hour access to facilities
  • Responsible for cost of the replacement or repair of structured cabling or wiring
  • Submit a Wide Area Network (WAN) network service request (NSR) through the web application or through the WAN request form via email
