Scope of Service

This section outlines the area of responsibility between the provider (DoIT) and the customer.

In scope:
  • Internet networkMaryland™ provides broadband connections to the Internet. networkMaryland™ also provides Domain Name System (DNS) resolution to internal and external users, enabling resolution of server and service addresses on the Internet
  • SwGI networkMaryland™ provides private network connectivity among Government entities and partners using the Statewide Government Intranet (SwGI). SwGI is a private, trusted network that provides a centralized resource for State entities to create and share resources like FMIS, WebFleet Master, DNS, MVA applications and Criminal Justice Information Systems to other governmental partners. networkMaryland™ also provides Domain Name System (DNS) resolution to internal and external users, enabling resolution of server and service addresses on the Statewide Government Intranet (SwGI).
  • VPRN networkMaryland™ Virtual Private Routed Network (VPRN) services provides a private routed network allowing subscribers to provide services to multiple offices from a primary data center or multiple data center locations. The VPRN deconstructs the traditional hub and spoke architecture (where primary locations became the hub for all services) and provides a flat network between all locations - providing better use of bandwidth resources and greater resiliency in the event of the loss of traditional location.
  • Private Line services are dedicated connections across the network backbone for customers that desire dedicated bandwidth with location to location connectivity.
Out of Scope:
  • Local area network services
  • Perimeter defense
Customer Responsibilities:
  • Designate a 24 x 7 x 365 point of contact for coordinating planned or emergency maintenance
  • Provide 24 hour access to facilities
  • Responsible for cost of the replacement or repair of structured cabling or wiring

Pricing Notes: Service pricing is a function of two variables - the price of service requested and the price of the connection. The price of the service requested differs by the type of service and the amount of bandwidth. The price of the connection depends on whether or not State fiber exists at the location or whether leased services are required to provide the service. The price of both components will determine the final service price. Bandwidth upgrades may require vendor pricing, survey and cost to construct. Installation may take up to 90 days to complete, after analysis of the initial NSR.
