Server and Storage Third Party Hosting Services

Service

Description

The Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT) offers Maryland state customers a secure, hybrid cloud Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) for hosting new applications and services.

Features and Benefits

Cost Savings: One benefit of moving to the PaaS model is lowering infrastructure costs for hosting new business applications. No longer do customers have the responsibility of ensuring uptime, purchasing and maintaining hardware, or replacing old equipment. PaaS also saves customers from having to buy more capacity to deal with unexpected business spikes. DoIT PaaS application deployments can help customers reduce their total cost of ownership through lower cost hosted solutions for their test, development and production application environments.

The “Pay-As-You-Go” Model: Another benefit is that the PaaS model provides significant cost savings. Because PaaS use is metered, customers pay for only the capacity needed at any given time. This method also allows them to avoid large upfront monthly or annual fees for benefits they may not use.

Scalability and Flexibility: One of the greatest benefits of PaaS is the ability to scale up and down quickly in response to a customer’s requirements. PaaS provides powerful storage, servers and networking technology to accommodate the needs of our customers. This on-demand scalability provides added flexibility and greater agility to respond to changing opportunities and requirements. This is especially helpful in building and dismantling test and development environments, which greatly benefit from this increased speed and agility.

Faster Time to Market: Quick time to market is one of the best features of the platform. Because PaaS provides elasticity and scalability, customers can ramp up and get the job done (and the product or service to market) rapidly.

Focus on Business Growth: Time, money and energy spent making technology decisions and hiring staff to manage and maintain the technology infrastructure is time not spent on focusing on the customer’s core mission. By moving infrastructure to a PaaS model, customers can spend more time and resources where they belong, on developing innovations in applications and solutions.
