Department of Information Technology Overview

“The world is changing, and the only question is whether Maryland will be reactive or proactive. The DoIT team is helping us ensure that Maryland leads.”
– Governor Wes Moore

About

Established by 2008 legislation, the Department of Information Technology (DoIT) was created to consolidate state agency IT functions and policies, reporting directly to the Governor.

As the state’s IT leader, DoIT manages information technology and telecommunications services and provides critical support to state agencies, the Executive Office of the Governor, coordinating offices, and independent Executive Branch agencies. The agency provides cybersecurity, digital, data governance, AI enablement, infrastructure, and platform services to its partner agencies, ensuring the State of Maryland is more secure, productive, and accessible.

The department also serves as a principal procurement unit, driving efficiency, collaboration, and best practices in IT operations and project management.

Mission & Vision

“The Department of Information Technology is home to a diverse team of mission-driven architects, engineers, and visionaries. Their passion and experience allow our agency to be true transformation leaders for the state of Maryland.”
- Katie Savage, DoIT Secretary

DoIT’s mission is to provide vital technology solutions that allow the Executive Branch, State Agencies, and Coordinating Offices to provide Marylanders with services that enable them to live and work more safely, efficiently, and productively.

Our vision is to transform the digital experience for state government. The transformation focuses on the responsible use of artificial intelligence, user-centered design in digital services, ensuring equal access to all information technology, and protecting Maryland’s digital infrastructure through enhanced intergovernmental partnerships.
