Maryland Digital Infrastructure Group

The Maryland Digital Infrastructure Group (DIG) was established through an executive order signed by Governor Moore to enhance collaboration among Maryland state, county, and local entities, ensuring a strategic approach to broadband expansion and digital connectivity.

This initiative aims to eliminate silos, reduce financial inefficiencies, expand internet coverage, boost state revenue, and bridge the digital divide across the state.

The group will ensure best management practices for state resources, assets, licenses, and funding, aligning them with state goals and the Department of Information Technology’s (DoIT) Statewide Information Technology Master Plan. This interagency partnership also identifies opportunities for productive partnerships and the adoption of emerging technologies, including public-private partnerships, to facilitate resource sharing and advance the expansion of Maryland's broadband and IT infrastructure.

DIG will develop Maryland’s first unified Single View GIS platform. This platform will display public sector broadband and digital infrastructure assets. It will support proactive planning and coordination, addressing four key areas of broadband expansion: tower assets, transportation variables, requirements of government institutions, and community needs.

The Digital Infrastructure Group is led by Eric Bathras, DoIT’s Chief Technology Officer for Infrastructure. If you are a public sector organization and interested in joining the Maryland Digital Infrastructure Group, please contact him at eric.bathras@maryland.gov.
